Nikko All-You-Can-Eat Sushi and Seafood Buffet

Rating: 2.0 / 5
If you’re like me and you’re more about quality than quantity, or just don’t mind spending more on food that’s genuinely good, I’m afraid to say that there’s not a whole lot of reasons to go more than once. I hate to say it, because I love the concept, but I won’t be rushing to go back. On the other hand, if you’re all about quantity, and you just want to stuff you face with sushi, then this is certainly the place to knock yourself out with [...]

Flying Fish! - Benihana (Orlando)

Overall Rating – 2.8 / 5
Would I go to another Benihana? Yes, under one of two circumstances: 1) if I wanted to stuff my face beyond recognition for what is, in all fairness, pretty cheap, or 2) if I saw one in a place not really known for its sushi, Biloxi, Missisippi for example, and I wanted a “safe bet”. I might even go to it on occasion if there was one in the Albany / Troy area, but when I’m travelling, it’s simply not worth trading the novelty of going somewhere completely new for the merely satisfactory experience of [...]

Hannaford

Overall rating – 1.2 / 5
All in all it wasn’t anything that I’d ever even remotely think about recommending to anyone, but as far as taste and freshness went it would suffice if I was in a grocery store and had a yearning for sushi then and there … except for the whole rice thing and the falling apart thing. Those are simply inexcusable errors, and eschewed any hopes of me buying sushi from a Hannaford [...]

Koto Japanese Steak House

Overall rating – 4.1 / 5
For everyday, “I just want some sushi” purposes, Koto does price itself out. Still, some marvelous food can be had there, and I do recommend [...]

Buffalo Wagon Pan Asian Cuisine & Sushi

Overall: 3.1 / 5

I’ll be going back to the B-Wag, as there are a bunch of rolls that you’re not going to get anywhere else (I need to try the oyster roll), but since there probably are as many misses as hits on the menu, and there’s nothing to really set it apart aside from their creativity, I just can’t give it that great a recommendation. I will say that Buffalo Wagon is good, though, and worth the trip if you haven’t yet [...]

Sushi Tei

4.0 / 5

I know a lot of people think the world of Sushi Tei, and they’re going to hate me for saying this, but it’s not the best Sushi in the area and I wouldn’t place it in the top tier. Don’t get me wrong – it is very good, and they have some truly outstanding rolls on the menu, but it does get better. Even if you don’t agree with me on anything else, there is no doubt that Sushi Tei abuses the use of avocado. It’s simply everywhere and you would have to try to escape from eating it. If, however, you don’t mind every roll containing avocado, if you may be looking for a place that’s a little cozy, a little farther from mainstream, perhaps someplace with average prices but above average rolls and excellent service – then Sushi Tei is right up your alley. Even if you’re not, it’s still very [...]

Flying Fish! - New Ashiya Japanese Sushi (New York, NY)

1.5 / 5

Having sampled what New Ashiya has to offer in terms of sushi, I never felt that I was missing out. The little bit of sushi that I had imparted its mediocrity upon my palette and I quickly realized that the focus was not the all-you-can-eat part of the equation, but the all-you-can-drink. For my friend’s birthday, that was excellent, but for those who want to go out for good sushi (and after all, that’s what we’re here to discuss) it’s just not worth it at all. It’s loud, it’s cramped, the menu is tiny, and there are places in the city that are both far better and far cheaper. Really, unless you’re looking to get completely sauced, I just wouldn’t [...]

Hiro's

3.0 / 5

I would never expect the world from Hiro’s, but if you want good sushi on somewhat of a budget Hiro’s can satisfy … so long as you don’t tire of the modest selection of [...]

Sushi Na Ra

3.5 / 5

With some good quality fish a nice atmosphere, Sushi Na comes in at “good not great”, but if you pick your rolls wisely you can have a delightful [...]

Flying Fish! - Yellowtail (Las Vegas, NV)

2.5 / 5

I was recently in Las Vegas for a friend’s bachelor party (no, we didn’t lose him, find a baby, or steal Mike Tyson’s tiger) and we were staying at the Bellagio which just so happened to contain this artistic little sushi restaurant, Yellowtail. Myself and a friend decided that we’d be better off getting Sushi than joining the rest of the 15-strong crew in their quest for [...]
